Artifacts and Treasures from the tomb of King Tutankhamun went on display for the final time here in Los Angeles with the closing show on January 13th, 2019. Featured in the exhibit were 60 golden treasures never before seen outside of Cairo.
For those that hoped to catch a glimpse or be present with the King's sarcophagus, it was not on display here. King Tut's body and sarcophagus is at rest in Egypt due to concerns of them being too fragile to move. However, the exhibit featured more than enough artifacts where you can experience and feel like you were there at that time. Though not an interactive display like the rest of the California Science Center due to the sensitivity and fragileness of the items; this exhibit was fit for the entire family. For many, it is the first time learning about these rare relics and pieces since nearly half the exhibit featured pieces not seen in the public eye. With each piece, there was a story and history that educated the guests on the significance of it. This was an attraction that was not only sensational but educational at the same time. Online context and books are great, but they will never beat out information directly from the source at an exhibit and IMAX feature.
The two highlights of our adventure was seeing the Guardian of Ka, in surprisingly great condition, who was standing right before a model of King Tut's sarcophagus which showcased the real artifacts. The 2nd one was at the exit, where a funerary statue of King Tut was displayed. It was in a room by itself, which also attracted a large crowd. You can just feel the history here while standing inside this room. Though we could not see or be in the same room as the infamous mask or sarcophagus; this felt like it was a pretty close second.
